Cleaning House Tips - How to Clean Your Living Room Step by Step

By Timo Kiander

My living room is the place where I spend time almost every evening. Although I don't watch television as much as I used to, a clean living room gives me much more enjoyment than being in a messy one.

Cleaning it is easy, even if a couch and coffee table make it a bit more difficult to vacuum clean. The steps provided here will help you get a clean living room as quickly as possible.

Identify the ideal way of working in the room

The most difficult place to clean in my living room is under the sofa. It is pretty much the most difficult place in my household, since it is very difficult to reach there with my vacuum cleaner. For this reason, I start my cleaning routine in this area.

Declutter, declutter, declutter

Sometimes I need to declutter my living room a bit before I can start cleaning it, and usually this means cleaning the coffee table.

Typically, magazines and remote controllers pile up on the coffee table, so these items will need to be placed elsewhere. Decluttering has to be done first before starting the actual cleaning.

Take care of the floors, baseboards and levels

After cleaning the most difficult space in the room (for me it's underneath the sofa!), I move on to the rest of the floor space. Since there is a bit of level space there, it gathers a lot of the dust on top. Finally, I clean the baseboards, since they gather large amounts dust, as well.

Most of the time I just vacuum clean my carpets, but sometimes I may need to take them out for further cleaning by carper beater.
