Dusty, dirty surfaces in the home can irritate the homes inhabitants and be an eyesore when entertaining guests. So keeping surfaces dust free and clean has numerous benefits, not to mention a clean home is a happy one. Endust products and the following cleaning tips should be all you need to get started.

Hardwood furniture is a family heirloom or a fine piece. Whatever the worth of your furniture, keep it looking its best by learning the proper way to dust and clean it, and how to repair damage to the surface of the wood or the finish. With proper care, wood furniture can last through many generations.

Dusting:

Sprinkle a small amount of water on a soft, absorbent cloth and use this for dusting your wood furniture. Dusting with a dry cloth may cause scratching. The cloth should be just wet enough to attract the dust but not enough to wet the wood. Commercial aerosol dusting aids are another option. Spray these on the cloth and use the cloth to dust the furniture.

Dust using small oval motions, following the grain of the wood. Fold your cloth and respray with water or dust aid as soon as you notice visible dust on the cloth.

Lift items off of the furniture to dust under them, rather than sliding them across the wood. Sliding may cause dust particles trapped under lamps and other items to scratch the wood surface or finish.

Cleaning:

Clean sticky spots from wood furniture by dipping a cloth in warm soapy water, wringing it almost dry and wiping the sticky area only. Dry as soon as possible. It is not necessary or desirable to wash entire pieces of wood furniture regularly with water.

Mix equal parts olive oil, denatured alcohol, gum turpentine and strained lemon juice. Dip a soft cloth in this mixture and rub into wood. This will revive and clean dirty furniture better than water, and will protect the wood surface as well. Buff the polished wood with a dry towel to remove excess product.

Use an abrasive wood cleaner on fine steel wool to remove build up on wax, polish or dirt from wood furniture. Clean small areas at a time, using only enough pressure to work through the grime without damaging the wood. Apply polish and buff the furniture after it is cleaned.

Dust mites, mold spores, and other allergens in your home can trigger those miserable symptoms all winter long. Learn how to get relief.

Don’t spend the winter inside suffering from indoor allergies and dust. Endust offers great products like asthma and allergy friendly Endust Free cleaning spray to help make your time spend indoors more tolerable.

Winter brings many people with allergies a break from their symptoms. But for others, winter can be the start of a whole new allergy season. “Winter allergies are typically going to be the indoor allergens such as pets, dust mites, and mold,” says Julie McNairn, MD, an allergist/immunologist in Cincinnati. She says that for people who live in tropical climates, pollen allergies can linger year-round, even through the winter. But in places where temperatures dip in the winter, it’s generally indoor allergens that cause symptoms.

Dust Mites, Dander, Roaches, and Mold

Household dust, pet dander, cockroach droppings, and mold are common indoor allergens that can trigger allergies in susceptible people.

Dust – Found in all homes, dust is the breeding ground for microscopic organisms called dust mites. The droppings of these dust mites are a common trigger for indoor allergies. Though dust mites can be found just about everywhere, they are particularly common in humid parts of the house and where human dander (flakes of dead skin) collects.

Animal Dander – or the dead skin flakes of warm-blooded animals, contains proteins that can trigger allergies in some people.

Today we rely heavily on electronic devices to communicate, entertain, navigate and just survive. These devices take care of us so we should take care of them. This is why Endust offers great cleaning products, cleaning tips for electronics, as well as articles like this one that provide insight to cleaning things properly.

Dusting

One of the biggest enemies to your electronics is dust. Dust settles, thickens, and can eventually block important components like fans. A nonworking fan leads to overheated and possibly ruined electronics.

No matter what kind of duster you use, the main point is that you dust your electronics and dust often. You may think dusting is a hassle, but try replacing a fried computer that had its fan blocked by dust.

Screens

In case you have not noticed, television and computer screens are magnets for dust and dirt. A screen can get dusty and grimy or be covered with fingerprints. Different types of screens will require different cleaning solutions, so be sure to check the manufacturers instructions.

Never spray cleaner directly onto a screen because, you will inevitably spray too much and have it dripping into your electronics. Instead spray a small amount onto your cleaning cloth and then wipe the screen working in a circular motion. Do not use paper towels on your screens, they can scratch and pit the surface. Instead choose a soft cleaning cloth.

Spring cleaning is a very popular time with homeowners and with Endust, we offer great Spring Cleaning tips for you to use. However, we also understand the need for a clean house when it is cold and you are stuck inside during the winter. So we wanted to provide these winter cleaning tips that can be paired with our cleaning sprays for a great clean, all year round!

Winter is the time of year when many people spend the most time in their homes. It’s colder and there are gatherings with friends and family. Winter cleaning is mostly cold weather or holiday specific, with a few extras to do while you’re home on a “snow day.”

Chimneys

Before your first fire, have a professional chimney sweep. The job is too difficult to do on your own, and the risks are great. A fire in your chimney can destroy your entire house. Don’t rely on “cleaning logs” in place of a chimney sweep. They cannot do the same job, and they do not eliminate the risk of a chimney fire.

If you have a wood stove, you should also have it professionally checked. This is the most important cleaning job you will do all winter.

Furnaces

Have your furnace checked by a professional as well. They can tell you specific cleaning or maintenance steps you need to take for your specific furnace. Change or clean the filters monthly throughout the season. Vacuum your vents and registers with an attachment every time you vacuum the floor.

Snow Blowers & Snowmobiles

If you live in an area that gets regular snowfall, you should clean snow blowers and snowmobiles at this time. If they have salt and “ick” (a very technical term) build-up on them, you can take them to a do-it-yourself car wash and use the power wash wand to get them clean. If you have rust, you can clean it off with fine steel wool.

The Pantry

It’s time to sort through your pantry (summer and winter), throwing away whatever has gone bad or won’t be used. This doesn’t have to be a big job. Just drag over a big trash can and get started.

Pay attention to “Use By” dates. If the date hasn’t passed but is coming up and you’re not going to use the item, toss it. You should throw away any cans that are dented or are missing labels.

Mattresses

Twice a year (summer and winter), you should clean all of the mattresses in the house to keep dust mites under control. Vacuum the top of the mattress, move the mattress and vacuum the box springs, then flip the mattress and vacuum the new top of the mattress.

For further protection from dust mites, add an allergenic mattress pad and wash your sheets in hot water.

The new year is the time when we all wipe the slate clean and start fresh. Endust wants you to start of the new year with aclean house for you and your family. Our cleaning sprays anddusting cloths are the perfect tool to equip yourself with when tackling the tough messes your house throws at you. On top of our products we provide cleaning tips and tricks to help make your life easier! Happy new year and happy cleaning!

As soon as the Christmas decorations are put away, my family begins to make lists of their goals for the next year, and not surprisingly a lot of my goals have to do with my home. I get a lot of emails from others who are making the same goals. Here are seven of the most common resolutions for housekeeping and the resources to make them a reality.

Save money on the housekeeping budget.

Many people are looking for ways to trim every aspect of their budget, and housekeeping is no exception. There are some simple ways to cut your cleaning budget without cutting the quality of the cleaning.

Learn to clean more quickly.

There are few people in this world who would choose to spend more time cleaning their homes. For those of us with other things we’d like to accomplish, learning to clean more quickly is a great goal.

Clear clutter.

A messy house may be in need of more than just cleaning. Often messiness can actually be too much clutter. If you’ve got the goal of reducing the amount of stuff in your home, the mess will disappear with the stuff.

Get organized.

Once the clutter is gone, a great next step goal is to reorganize what is left. Many people make goals to get organized, but the common theme among those who fail to realize their goal, is that they lacked a plan.

Set a cleaning schedule.

There is always something to clean…or so it can seem. A cleaning schedule allows for easier management of daily, weekly, and monthly chores. It sets a pattern for cleaning your home that can make your housekeeping more efficient.

Be more motivated to clean.

Sometimes motivation is the main thing lacking in our housekeeping. It’s not always easy to be excited about chores, but there are some easy things that will help get you more motivated to clean.

Get all household members to clean.

Getting everyone to pitch in and clean together can be a big challenge. There are some tips that will get even your youngest family members into the habit of helping.

Cleaning your home, and especially your bedroom, can be a time consuming task. With these simplecleaning tips, you can keep your bedroom clean everyday, or do a quick cleaning if unexpected company drops by!

It should only take you about five minutes to clean up your bedroom each morning before you leave the house. Here are 4 easy ways to get you going:

Make your bed!

As soon as you get out of bed, turn around and make it. The room will instantly feel neater and cleaner.

Clean off the night tables.

Streamline your night tables by limiting the number of items you place on them. If you have books or magazines on your night tables, place them in a decorative basket.

De-clutter the top of your dresser.

Get rid of everything that’s currently on your dresser and keep the surface clean. Add a decorative vase, candle or picture frame. Invest in a small basket or small dish for those little items like jewelry or loose change. Empty it on the weekend when you do a more thorough cleaning.

Hang up all of your clothes.

Get a hamper for your dirty items. Add hooks on the back of your bedroom door to hang up robes and other pieces of clothing. Invest in a shoe rack and place your shoes in them as soon as you walk in the door!

The holidays can be a stressful time for anyone hosting their family party, but your favorite cleaning product, Endust is here to help! Use these simple tips for a stress-free holiday to help you find out how toclean your home, organize for the party, and decorate your house for company!

Want to feel relaxed and cheery during the holidays? Then get a jump on your holiday organization now. Prepping for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s entertaining is a great way to get in the holiday spirit early. Even better, with all your chores done, you can spend more of the holidays eating, drinking, and merry-making with your family and guests. Here are 7 easy tips to get you ready for holiday entertaining ahead of time so that your holiday season is stress-free!

This place better shine like the top of the Chrysler building!

One of the best things you can do is clean your kitchen from top to bottom. If you do a thorough job now, you’ll have more time to bake cookies with your kids, catch up with visiting friends, and make merry. Start with the obvious places: thoroughly clean your cabinets, counters, and floors. But don’t stop there! Now is the time to wipe down the top of the fridge and dust out-of-the-way places. When you have 18 Thanksgiving dinner guests and have run out of room to put things, you’ll be glad you did a good once-over.

Put the sparkle in your holiday tableware

While we’re talking about the kitchen, it’s also a great idea to wash any special dishes, flatware, or glassware. No one wants a dusty champagne glass, and this way you won’t have to worry about it the day, or week, of. You’ll also want to get out that special dancing Santa tablecloth and matching napkins to see if they need a wash, a trip to the dry cleaner, or just a good ironing.

Get your house in order

Next you’ll want to clean the rest of the house. Do a thorough vacuum and dusting and make sure you hit the guest room. You wouldn’t want your Grandma to have dust bunnies on her pillows! While you’re at it, launder everything you can: sheets, towels, rugs, whatever. We are working you now, but you’ll be so glad when you can enjoy the holidays knowing your chores are done.

Sugar and spice and everything nice

Some spices really make the holidays, and you don’t want to find out at the last minute that you’re all out. Stock up now on nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, sage, and bay leaves. Making cookies this year? Check your sprinkles, icing supplies, and vanilla extract. Also make sure to have plenty of basics on hand, like kosher salt and fresh pepper.

Stock the cupboard

Speaking of restocking, check your pantry, too. You want to make sure you have the things you need, not just for, say, Thanksgiving dinner, but also for your famous day-after turkey chili. Now is the time to buy cans of tomatoes, pumpkin, stock, sweetened condensed milk, or whatever other canned goods are vital to your special holiday recipes. You’ll also need plenty of sugar – regular and brown – honey, and flour. Check your baking soda and baking powder, too. If they’re not so fresh or have expired, toss them and buy some new, sure-fire leavening agents. Finally, while you’re digging around in the pantry, get rid of anything you don’t need (if you haven’t eaten that seven-year-old jar of Aunt Mitzy’s pickled eggs yet, are you really going to?).

Everything in its place

“Mise-en-place” is French for “putting [everything] in place” and, besides sounding cool, it’s a great way to reduce your holiday cooking stress. One or two days before your big affair, do as much prep work as you can. Chop celery and carrots or peel and dice potatoes, pumpkins, and yams. Mince your onions and garlic. It will save you much stress when you’re cooking the big meal. Also, make note of dishes that can be made ahead. Pie dough, squash puree, holiday casseroles, cranberry sauce, stock, and gravy are all great make-ahead dishes.

Stock up on kitchen basics

With Thanksgiving leftovers, Christmas cookies, fruitcake, holiday parties, and New Year’s potlucks, you’re going to go through a lot of foil, food containers, parchment, plastic wrap, trash bags, leftover containers, soap, and sponges between now and January 1st. Make sure to have plenty of these items on hand.

Did You Know?…Most people wear 20% of their wardrobe 80% of the time.

Organizing your closet is one of the most daunting tasks when you are cleaning your home. Although it may take a little while, you’ll feel accomplished after you tackle your closet – and you’ll have one more room to cross off of your cleaning checklist!

Who doesn’t wish for more closet space than they currently have?… Short of tearing out a wall to increase the size of your closet, or investing in a built-in closet organizer (like Elfa Closet Solutions, Closetmaid, Schulte Storage Solutions, even Rubbermaid has a built-in closet system now), following are some simple things you can do right now to get more space in your current closet. So first I did a little research to find some quick tips & inexpensive “cheats” that would help to maximize the space in our relatively small walk-in closet. Then, I got to work. Here’s how I did it…

How To Organize Your Closet

Start from scratch. That means you need to get everything that’s in your closet… out! It’s only temporary, but you’ll need to pick a day when you can carry every single item out of your closet TIP: While it’s bare, you may as well give it a quick vacuuming and do whatever you can to tidy up the space a bit.Now that you have a clean palette, you need to sort each and every item and place each article of clothing into one of the following piles TIP: For my “piles” I used our King-size bed, the full-size bed in the nearby guest bedroom, and the floor in the office across the hall from our bedroom.

“Keep for daily wear.”

“Keep for special occasions.”

“Donate or give away.”

“Trash it.”

If you’re like me, to help you decide which pile certain garments belong in, you may need to take the time to try things on — to make sure they still fit. If something doesn’t fit exactly as it should right now, but you are 100% certain that it will fit fine very soon, then you should put that item in the “Special Occasions” pile. TIP: Do yourself a favor… You need to be brutally honest during this process. Be very selective about the things you cannot currently fit in but still wish to keep. Besides, the more room you clear out, the more room you’ll have to buy NEW things that do fit!
Once each and every item has been assigned to a category, then you need to determine exactly where you will be storing those items earmarked ‘Special Occasions’. One thing’s for sure: such items do NOT belong in your closet that’s filled with daily apparel.
TIP: Consider devoting a closet in a spare bedroom for this purpose, or designate some space in the attic or the basement. You may even want to consider plastic storage boxes or canvas garment boxes that will be stored underneath a bed, or maybe even a free-standing garment rack & shoe organizer like this one.

Finally, one by one, carry each item to its ultimate destination: Your closet that is soon-to-be-filled with daily apparel. Your ‘Special Occasion’ area (a spare closet, basement, attic, or garment boxes) Bags or boxes for donation to others (Goodwill store, friends, or your local Freecycle group)
TIP: Stick to your guns… Don’t talk yourself into switching piles at the last minute. Like with most things, your first instinct is always the best choice! And, don’t allow any non-clothing items back in the closet. No suitcases. No vacuum cleaners. No coats. No boxes, bags or linens. These things all belong elsewhere.

Endust knows that parties are some of the best parts of the holidays, and our cleaning sprays are a perfect way to spruce up your home this holiday season. With lots of guests coming in and out of the house, keeping your home clean and safe is very important. Endust has you covered with some great house cleaning tips, and don’t forget that we offer hypoallergenic products as well!

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it is time to bring out the decorations. The Holidays invite all sorts of fun activities, from lighting candles to hanging fresh greens and stringing lights. You may get caught up in the excitement of the holiday decorations and forget to keep an eye out for some of the holiday trip-ups, fire hazards, and other safety snafus. The winter holidays are a time for celebration and that means more cooking, home decorating, entertaining, and an increased risk of fire and other hazards. According to the National Fire Prevention Association, half of all home heating fires occurred in December, January and February. Here are a few things to watch out for to ensure that this doesn’t happen to you.

Inspect your holiday lights: Inspect them string by string each year and discard any with frayed cords, cracked lamp holders, or loose connections. When replacing old bulbs, make sure it is unplugged and match the voltage and wattage to the original bulb.

Lights Out: Always turn off holiday lights when you leave the house or go to bed.

Keep it fresh: Purchase a freshly cut tree, as they are more resistant to ignition. Also be sure to keep the tree watered and away from open candles.

Timing is everything: Use an outdoor timer certified by CSA International to switch lights on and off. If you are looking to save energy and money you should consider turning off your lights around 7 p.m. to avoid the electricity rush hour.

Check cords to make sure they’re certified: When purchasing light strings, extension cords, spotlights, electrical decorations, gas appliances, or carbon monoxide alarms, look for the certification mark of an accredited certification organization such as CSA International, UL, or ELT to ensure that the products comply with applicable standards for safety and performance.

One and Done: Never connect more than one extension cord together; use a single cord that is long enough to reach the outlet without stretching, but not so long that it can be tangled.

The Great Outdoors: When hanging your lights outside make sure that you keep all electrical connectors off the ground and away from metal rain gutters. Use insulated tape or plastic clips instead of metal nails or tacks to hold them in place.

Keep the Gas behind Glass: Do not use your gas fireplace if the glass panel is removed, cracked, or broken, and only allow a qualified service person to replace fireplace parts.

Now that you’ve finished cleaning your home after Thanksgiving, it’s time to start thinking about Christmas and Hanukkah! Many of you have, or will soon be setting up and decorating your tree in celebration of Christmas! If you’re getting a live tree this year, here are some great cleaning tips for you to use before bringing the tree in your home to decorate!

Christmas trees come from the great outdoors, after all, so cleaning your tree up a bit before bringing it into your living room is probably a good idea. Sap, dirt and other unwanted guests could be clinging to its trunk or branches.

Things You’ll Need

Gardening Gloves

Paper Towels

Set up your tree outside if you can

In the back yard, on a patio or deck, or on the sidewalk. (If all else fails, you can do this inside on a layer of newspaper.)

Push your hands back through the branches to the trunk.

Gently run your hands up and down the trunk To brush off loose needles and any accumulated detritus (leaves, loose twigs).

Grasp each branch close to the trunk and slide your hands up to the branch tips.

Gently grab and pull as you go – hard enough to remove dead or loose needles but not hard enough to pull out live ones.

Repeat this step using damp paper towels

Repeat this step using damp paper towels to wipe off dirt, insect egg sacs and general forest debris
